The lyric was about his friend who moved to "give them a standup routine in LA". That friend is comedy legend George Wallace.

@jackiekashian.bsky.social Listening to you talk about the rampant joke theft in Vaudeville reminds me of when I learned that Abbott & Costello's "Who's on first?" routine was such a common routine in Vaudeville that it was practically a street joke. Abbot & Costello were just the first to film it.
