This thread about an AI tool making it impossible for a journal editor to do their job is wild Also an example of why our book, Why We Fear AI, argues that AI must be understood as an anti-intellectual force in the reconfiguration of the relation of capital & state to knowledge work

The fact that AI is simultaneously a weapon of class war, for devaluing skills, increasing the replaceability of people, etc, and a grand capitalist delusion that mistakes the "desires" of capital for reality is quite unmooring
Inflation for workers, but not for those who harm them. The class politics of it all couldn't be more obvious
"Our AI product may destroy humanity!!11" is OpenAI's odd go-to advertisement. Among other things, it's a great way of making real harms seem comparatively small. Now they're deploying the same strategy for their energy usage Contributing, as always, to the very real destruction of the earth
See, so much AI stuff is just the subconscious of capital: "What if people didn't have to know things?" "What if we could just automate the realization of value, without input from pesky humans/consumers?" etc etc

One of the many reasons I think political strategies against AI should primarily be aimed at the companies selling it, and the bosses pushing it
Read all about it here I guess 🤷
Calling a literal pogrom “disorder” is certainly a choice. Y’all prefer orderly lynchings? People were attacked for their perceived race. That’s a pogrom. bsky.app/profile/emma...
