What matters most for childhood brain organization?
We analyzed 649 variables.
The answer: Socioeconomics (SES); with brain patterns pointing at sleep & stress as drivers.
Even brain-IQ associations were better explained by SES.

Can lesion network mapping predict survival in children with brain tumors? Collaboration with UCL and @braincircuits.bsky.social in @nature.com suggests the answer is yes. Cutting the tumor off from this network may provide survival benefit.

๐ง We gave an AI model one simple rule: rearrange your neurons so that nearby ones respond alike. We never told it what a face, a voice, or a sentence was.
It grew brain-like maps for all three anyway. ๐งต๐

New paper out in @ frontiersin.bsky.social ๐ง In 40,579 adults across two cohorts (HCHS, #ukbiobank), we show that "biological brain aging" on MRI links to poorer cognition & motor function โ and mediates the link between vascular risk and functional decline.

IntroductionAge-related declines in cognitive and motor functions show highly variable trajectories. To better understand the underlying mechanisms, we inves...
