Somewhere in here, apparently, are a few hoofprints of Dartmoor's Bronze Age horses, amongst mainly cattle and sheep, on the base of the Saddlesborough reave ditch on Shaugh Moor. A 14C date of 1590±80 bc looks older than the currently accepted date range for the reaves - still can't get to 4500 BP!

Whatever the truth about potential impacts of current policy decisions the assertion that “Dartmoor hill ponies have been on the landscape for 4,500 years” seems dubious - is there archaeological evidence they’ve been there that long?
Jonathan Last
Campaigners say requirements to cut livestock grazing could lead to a 90% cull of its hill ponies.
