Silver-studded Blue at Bolt Head, Devon today (2 male and 1 female). Also 4+ Grayling Butterfly, 1 Chimney Sweeper Moth and loads of Six-spot Burnet (80+) @savebutterflies.bsky.social #lepidoptera
Male Long-horned Bees still flying at Froward Point today but looking fairly worm. My first females seen at this site too but I’ve still not managed to find any nests into the cliffs. Also lots of Thrift Clearwing below the cliffs on the rocky ledge. #bees #teammoth
Nudibranchs in Torbay area last night and this morning’s low tide. Species in alt text. #nudibranch #rockpool #marinebiology
Nature gave my youngest son a brilliant birthday gift today during a short rock pooling session before his beach party- 2 new species for us and both we’ve been particularly looking forward to seeing! Two Okenia elegans (Yellow-skirt/Venus Sea Slug) and Discodoris rosi. #nudibranch #rockpool
Evening rock pooling paid off when I found this Antiopella cristata amongst the seaweed near Brixham! The only other one I’ve seen was also in June so possibly a good month to find this species. A large nudibranch at about 60mm (3rd photo). #nudibranch #rockpooling #marinelife #marinebiology
The exquisite micro moth Oecophora bractella - a relative of 'Geoff' flies in the the early morning sunshine between 6 and 7 am in the ancient oakwoods of the Dart Valley Dartmoor, Devon at this time of year. It is associated with dead wood, the larva probably feeds on fungi. #teammoth
Thanks to @devonshirenature.bsky.social for mentioning the Long-horn Bees here a few years back!
