It is worth remembering that the Brownshirts, the SS, and all of their infrastructure and institutions, were organs of the Nazi Party and not the German state. Where the state stood in the way, the Nazis either dismantled it or went around it.

Shanker was older than Trump but like him one of those perennial NYers who kept popping up in the consciousness it seemed forever. Allen was so close. He just had the wrong annoying and self aggrandizing NYer.
In Woody Allen’s Sleeper the global apocalypse started “when a man named Albert Shanker got hold of a thermonuclear weapon.” Few people may now remember the controversial and annoying Shanker who was head of the Teachers Union. He began as liberal but turned more conservative over time. 1/
