Maybe Weir's statement has changed since he made that comment almost 10 years ago. Anyone ever thought to check?
No current Trek show has produced something as bad as "Turnabout Intruder" or "Code of Honor."
Current film buffs would've railed against the film for building models of spaceships for the final battle and not filming it "practically."

Heck, I even remember a "criticism" of early TNG was that fans were more invested in the special effects than the story.
If we demand people apologize for what they do, but when they do we still condemn them and refuse to accept it?
