Looks like Learmonth radar got knocked out. Final frame shows #Cyclone #NARELLE's eyewall over Exmouth (pink star) & approaching Learmonth (blue star). Winds at Learmonth continued to increase, reaching 75 knots gusting to 104. Exmouth—more exposed & deeper in the cyclone—likely had stronger winds.
WPAC is dead. Feast your eyes, because it won't stay like this. El Niños tend to ignite wild #typhoon seasons. So, I expect to be out there a lot this year—maybe soon. Some long-range ensemble models are suggesting possible typhoon threat to #Philippines between 10 & 15 days.

One year ago today was this freak show on the US Gulf Coast. Sacred Hurricane House was desecrated by the cold white stuff—temporarily became Sneaux House. A day that will live in infamy. But I'm OK now. It helps to talk about it.

Wanna give thanks to my friend, Rob Rhorer. He works with wood & he made this sweet handmade Mississippi clock—from wood he salvaged from a Louisiana home destroyed by Hurricane LAURA. So, the shattered house lives on, resurrected in new creations. It's going in a special place in Hurricane House.
Coral Sea is quiet right now. But computer models have been hinting at #cyclone threat to Queensland #Australia. GFS & Google DeepMind are most aggressive, suggesting cyclone near Queensland in 6-10 days. Indicators are very uncertain—so for now, there's nothing to freak out about. Just stay aware.
#Cyclone #NARELLE has strengthened to Cat 3. Radar shows a big, fat core that'll bring dangerous conditions to wide swath of Western #Australia coast. Karratha is reporting 40 knots gusting to 54. Cyclone will turn SW today & approach North West Cape, hammering Exmouth & Onslow overnight.
NHC released #Hurricane #MELISSA report. It's now enshrined at top of Atlantic hurricane history:
* Peak intensity increased to 165 knots, tying for strongest 'cane.
* Landfall intensity in #Jamaica kept at 160 knots, tying for strongest landfall.
