My first reaction when reading that Anthropics Fable model was blocked by the US government was: I wonder if that actually happened. My instinct was to question if Anthropic had faked an official memo from the department of defence.
I think it is important to make a distinction between doing creative work and accessing creative work. When LLMs produce a creative solution to a given problem, it is replicating solutions it has seen before. For a given task that distinction is irrelevant but for understanding LLMs it is key
