Reviewing the paper by the Kats´ lab published today in #Cell, "Inhibition of heme biosynthesis triggers cuproptosis in acute myeloid leukemia", I learned that cuproptosis is real! Here is my preview:
When heme is low, copper kills cancer:

Thrilled to have contributed to this work led by @jgcastillo.bsky.social during his PhD at UC Berkeley w/ Michel DuPage. Targeting FSP1 in T cells boosts anti-tumor immunity by relieving Treg suppression, revealing a new immunomodulatory therapeutic axis. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Here is a link to our most recent editorial for #CDDiff, Cell Death and Differentiation. It´s on work by Tony Letai and team.

Registration is open: register for the first #MMPUResearchDay taking place in #Mannheim at #CubexOne on Oct 13, 2025. A great line-up of scientists from #MMPU, #EMBL, #UMM, #UKHD.
Very pleased to share this "spotlight" in Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism which refers to our recent work.

Tumor cell evasion from regulated cell death is a hallmark of cancer [1]. Davern et al. now identify resistance to mitochondrial apoptosis to represent the common mechanism by which persister cells th...

The tolerogenic activity of type 1 conventional dendritic cells (cDC1s) is determined by EPOR, which is preferentially expressed in cDC1s and induces antigen-specific FOXP3-expressing regulatory T cells.
Secondary necrosis follows apoptosis, but its mechanism is unclear. This study shows that although gasdermin E is cleaved during this process, it is not required for membrane rupture. Across multiple...
