Want to lift this up a bit because it highlights how the conversation around masculinity is centered around a lot of racialized assumptions as well.
This went on for a while at a philosophical level until someone asked “hey, was this person actually one of our top candidates anyway?” and of course he wasn’t. People just want to have the philosophical debate.

If this were TV, he’d be a problematic genius raising the question of how much could be tolerated to get all the good performance, but in real life the problematic person might not actually have any countervailing merits
