The only reason police everywhere kill people experiencing traumatic mental health crisis, rather than subduing them, is because that's what they're trained to do. It's one of the terrible products of police lives becoming more culturally valuable than the people they're hired to serve and protect.

This may sound horrible, but once a family tells police a member of the family is in a mental health situation, and the police arrive to find that person erratic, instead of killing them, perhaps tranquilize them and get them to a mental health facility. Seems more human and compassionate. 😥
