Blue-winged Teal showing well from 1st lookout at RSPB Ham Wall at 12.23
I would say yes itβs a cast of a fossil. @charmouthhcc.bsky.social may be able to help with identification.
No new birds but another 4 NFY at RSPB Ham Wall today; Bittern( 5+ heard), Blue-winged Teal (showed well briefly then flew off N), Crane (5 flew over) and Pochard! (a pair). Takes me to 169 for the year which is 4 below where I was at the same date last year, but puts me on track to clear 200.
A long session today at Woolbeding rewarded eventually with good views of a Honey Buzzard overhead. (Photo by others). Goshawk later, after most observers had departed. Tree Pipit displaying too was a nice bonus.
Year Listing: FWIW, with the addition of Woodcock, Dartford Warbler, Tree Pipit & Nightjar in the last 2 days, my year list moves to 162 (+ 2 birds heard-not-seen Golden Oriole & Turtle Dove). Only just realised these have all been in E & W Sussex. 63 places visited locally.
Another day of sunshine and storm clouds. RSPB Pulborough gave Spoonbill, Cuckoo and WT Eagle (55 species) yesterday and RSPB Amberley Wildbrooks 2 Cattle Egret (27 species) in a brief visit between the showers today. Photo taken looking west from Greatham Bridge.
Nightjarring at Pulborough night before last was good with at least 3 birds (2 seen interacting and a 3rd heard only). Upped the year list by 2 with the super sound of an unexpected Woodcock roding overhead.
Spot of seawatching off a familiar place to me ππ
