Oh dear, seems I was right last ish that Martin was merely stringing Ronnie, the dumb jock, along to be the guinea pig for his project. Didn't New 52 Firestorm already cover this "it's all a government experiment" cliche? Wouldn't mind, but Lemire is doing the exact same over in Absolute Flash too!
Something is seriously wrong with Firestorm and we're starting to see what the malady is. Beware of spoilers for issue #3 below!

Looks like Deathstorm from Blackest Night has taken over again, although they're hinting that it's rather the matrix itself. There have been plenty of "it's sentient" plots recently, like in Spurrier's take on the Speed Force over in Flash.

Say what you like about the movies, but the Aquaman soundtracks are incredible. The 1st one has so many iconic and epic sounding tracks that capture the aqua vibe perfectly. Just great for binging the comics to!

Remember the '80s when Firestorm was the comic relief of the JLA? Shows how much Ronnie's lighthearted personality helped to ground the potentially godlike nature of the character, but with Mr. Raymond lost in the matrix his fellow members don't stand a chance!
Firehawk is still the best thing about this book though. She's on a mission and seems to be the only one who actually cares about Ronnie. One of these days I'll have to have a back issue binge to find out more on her story...
Although I still much prefer reading physical copies, DCU Infinite is great for filling in the blanks. GL's DC Finest begins next issue with #19, can't wait! In the meantime it's more dastardly danger from the vizier of villainy...

As is often the case with Lemire, the issue feels like it only has about 5 pages and we are left wondering where it could possibly go next. Not a bad thing though! At this stage I can't see how he can be stopped apart from getting Stein to merge with him once again. Hopefully it won't be that easy!
