Trying to break open the door into the shed behind the house!
We're putting tons of little bespoke animations like these around the game world. It's a lot of work hand-drawing everything -- but I think it's going to be part of what makes Vivarium special.

Finding something today growing in the tree hollow behind Jenny’s house. 🌱
(This is what cutscenes in Vivarium look like!)
“Vivarium features a totally hand-drawn traditional cel-animation process—reflective of the media it’s inspired by. Every frame of the game is hand-crafted with love!”
What a relief! This looks amazing.
Vivarium began as a passion project back in 2017 -- to improve my skills and learn from masters like Hayao Miyazaki, Rumiko Takahashi, and Akira Toriyama.
I am so grateful of the support I've received to bring the game to the point it's at, and awestruck by what Vivarium has been able to grow into.
Here's a quick run through of the house!
We've been building out the entire world with inter-connectivity, short cuts, and loops. Almost like a miniature Souls world, or a Zelda dungeon.
I think it makes Vivarium very satisfying to navigate this way.
Wandering around the town in the evening, I think the lighting looks really special here.
This demo track that plays in the evening in town -- my collaborator @trentmakesgames.bsky.social was messing with something that sounded a bit like Animal Crossing on 64/GameCube.
