Jesus did not come to make America great.
So, anyway, I'll keep being a female pastor, and a queer one at that, and I welcome any SBC refugees to join me at church. There's life beyond abusive expressions of church.
They know this. They don't give a shit. Because the purpose is control, and to take attention away from the fact that there is a denomination-wide cover up of abuse of women and children. Which IS against the teachings of scripture.
I could elucidate on this forever, but I'll start here: they made this vote entirely from one bastardized translation of 1 Timothy, ignoring that 1 Timothy has major translation issues, and probably also prevents men who've been married more than once of holding the pastoral office.
I'm so, so, so, so tired - more than I can tell you - of seeing this happen to scripture. The American right does not have a "biblical" view of womanhood. Their beliefs are not found in scripture.
They got to this point by cherry picking and misusing scripture. Conservative Christians love to do this: say they believe scripture informs all their belief... and then abuse, twist, and ignore scripture until it submits to their beliefs (exactly what they want for women)
Many, many decision makers attend SBC churches every Sunday, and their politics are informed by the church. Their decisions matter to the country's politics at large. It matters to the millions of women and girls in the pews who have now been denied the ability to lead, even when called by God.
The Southern Baptist Convention has voted to bar all women from the role of pastor within their churches. I know for a lot of people outside of churches, this probably feels unrelated to your life. But, this is a church of 12 million people. It's the largest Protestant denom in the country.
but on the other hand, I want to be included. Social anxiety!
I need to be in zero group chats, yet another thing for me to not respond to and be anxious about
