Political and legal divergences between the USA and Europe mostly come in one of two varieties:
-things the two once had in common, were later changed or abandoned in Europe, but continued on in America
-changes Americans made at the beginning or over the centuries which were not adopted overseas
This is why you can ignore nativist "concerns" regarding culture, crime, etc.; they hate successful, assimilated immigrants they feel "leapfrogged" over them even more than the poor ones.
