The wife and I had a nice leisurely stroll through St. James Park, Buckingham Palace, and the Queen Victoria Memorial while the kids slept in and recharged. Our hotel is next to the St. James Park tube station and it’s close to so much.
Sorry, there was no instagramming of these shots, but except for the dan dan noodles (no tahini should be involved), everything was sublime. Other than 2.5x the cost of DTF in Taipei, this checked every damn box.
The kids went to Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre where it premiered on October 9, 1986. My adorkable theater nerd kids (complimentary) absolutely LOVED it. The wife saw it there in 1990 and mentioned that there were no pyrotechnics then. When it opened, it was HER Majesty’s Theatre.
Happening now. Access to Din Tai Fung?!?! You better fucking believe I’m taking advantage of it. It started in Taipei and they have amazeballs xiao long bao.
@anntandy.bsky.social and I say hi from Stonehenge! It’s pretty damn cool. And the drive out is beautiful.
My neighbor Ed has been a Morris dancer for decades and every August his troupe and another perform in our street. Imagine my surprise that our hotel in London hires a small troupe every Monday and Thursday during the wine hour. Afterwards they sat next to us at the Feathers pub.
Bath, and the drive there is stunningly beautiful. And the Roman Baths therein is an amazing visit. We skipped the Bath Abbey knowing that Westminster was on the menu. Like Stonehenge, I’d like to be here at golden hour/sunrise/sunset, but it was still beautiful.
The kids and I also hit the National Museum of Scotland and the castle. Game of Thrones cribbed so much from this – including the Red Wedding! My goodness, so much killing at these castles. Between this and the medical history walking tour, I’m very glad that I was born in the 20th century.
After visiting All Hallows by the Tower Church, we visited the Tower of London which was fascinating. After visiting here and Edinburgh castle, I’m glad I am living in the 21st century.
