You have to have some sympathy for a film where the protagonists journey to meet God and the filmmakers named the dwellingplace of God after an actor who declined the offer to guest-star in it.
I wonder a lot what my former mentors make of the fact that so many of the young seminarians they helped to train up have left their denomination if not the Church entirely. I dunno. The years I spent studying and searching for an absent god remain an aching open wound.

People will say the being at Sha-ka-ree isn't really God, and fair enough, but it's hard not to see this scene as also a commentary on the god worshipped by non-fictional people in the actually existing world. Star Trek V is a rich text. Fight me.

There's a lot wrong with the world but there are insects outside that literally light up when they're trying to get laid and that's pretty cool.
Did you know you can just watch a Star Trek? Whenever you want? You can just turn on a Star Trek and feel good all the time. There is infinite Star Trek and if you know how to use the internet it's free, and it's like taking your brain to a brain spa. I forget this sometimes but I remember now.
