Listening to Hadestown today, and thinking about Orpheus's name. Phonetically, it's almost certainly from the PIE root *h₃erbʰ-. But semantically, it's hard to say why: 1. the root has a lot of loosely joined meanings 2. don't know which one is primary 3. nearly all of them apply to Orpheus!
