I also restructured how transliteration information is stored, so I can start working on bring the transliterator back bigger and better!
The Japanese word for walrus is "seiuchi", which is borrowed from Russian "sivuč". But "sivuč" has gotta be a borrowing from something else. Looks ... Evenki or something? Does anyone know?
Hawaiʻian kai: "sea" and Japanese 海/かい/kai: "ocean, sea", definitely no relation. They come from *tasik and something like *m̥ˤəʔ, respectively On the other hand, Hawaiʻian ʻīlio: "dog" and Japanese 犬/いぬ/inu: "dog" are plausibly (but not certainly) related, from something like *(ŋ)kuɣ(kuɣ)
