Now I’m wondering how many thousands of others are receiving mysterious bills and spending hours online or the phone trying to figure out why they’re being billed for procedures they had years ago and it’s all because some lazy billing company is using an AI bot and no human is checking its “work.”

Fully ridiculous. I had thankfully carefully filed the paperwork from two years before, but I’m sure, understandably, most folks don’t

Absolutely!
They said I had to call the billing company. I called the billing company. The agent said the company had changed hands and the previous owners were “bad at their job” and now they had to check their work. I asked if they were using AI help discover these “discrepancies” which he awkwardly denied.
A few days later I received a text from my insurance confirming that that bill had been, in fact, paid in full.
