i think we also need to have a talk about "reprints". you can demand exclusivity OR you can insist authors come with an audience but you can't have both.

There lies the dilemma. How can folks from backgrounds where they don't have tons of cash, people who often need money in its immediacy, compose the work that exists within themselves and their perspective? The people who don't wanna be a publisher or make a serial. Those who need time.
yes! writing for/as oneself is still seen as the hobby of teachers and editors and mothers and professors and screenwriters and technical writers and all of the other 'writing adjacent' professions writers take up because they aren't paid to write. it's not like this everywhere. it needn't be here.
