Astrocytes do so much more than any of us thought - they even communicate among specific brain regions across hemispheres!
The journey to this paper spanned nearly a decade, but I'm most excited to see what everyone else does with the tools we've built. There's so much for all of us to explore!
Read about one of the fantastic postdocs in the lab - @pryprk.bsky.social.
Thanks to The Scientist for running this exciting series!
Priya is on the job market atm - so keep your eyes peeled for exciting things to come from her lab soon! :-)

ENDING STRONG in Astrocyte land here in San Diego.
Thanks for being an amazing community, and apologies (one last time) for anyone I missed! Please comment below with extra awesome astrocyte sessions.
See you in 2026!
Interested in finding your own astrocyte networks? The plasmid is now available on Addgene! www.addgene.org/252501/
Check out how we implemented it in this paper, published in Nature: www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Need extra guidance? Watch this space for a more detailed protocol paper soon!
Communication between distant brain regions is mediated by plastic networks of gap junction-coupled astrocytes.
Sorry all, some gliaseq datasets went down over the weekend. They should be up and functioning again soon (if not already).
Please do reach out if there are additional bugs.
MORE data coming soon!
Feeling like learning about a secret astrocyte network in the brain?

Congratulations Melissa Cooper, PhD of NYU Langone Health, a 2026 New Vision Research Awardee!
Her $100K grant will fund “Astrocyte Networks in Alzheimer’s Disease” exploring how brain cell networks drive disease and reveal new therapies.

I defended my PhD 10 years ago today. That was the least remarkable thing that happened that day. Sharing something I wrote about it last year. Since then "the horrors persist but so do we." And with dignity.
I was featured on The Scientist as a part of their 'Postdoc Portraits' series where I spoke about my scientific career path and ongoing work on oligodendrocyte dysfunction in neurodegeneration. Check it out! www.the-scientist.com/postdoc-port...
