Something is very wrong with the spiders of Sheffield. The Doctor and friends investigate.

This is (slight exaggeration) probably more money than his last few films combined. WSS and BFG outright flopped, Fablemans and The Post were small dramas with no real commercial ambitions, RPO I think did alright but dipped quickly after Infinity War. Curious to see what hold it has.
On the subject of actors who are too famous and big to do Doctor Who but would have been good regardless, I think it IS a shame we'll never see Chiwetel Ejiofor's Doctor. Or Felicity Jones'.
Mind you I can say that about a bunch of revival companion actors like Freema Agyeman, Jenna Coleman, Mandip Gill and Varada Sethu. Taking in the spin-offs, Burn Gorman and Anjli Mohindra would be great Doctors as well.
Rounding out the rest I haven't mentioned, Colin Baker was a combination as he was big on stage and a rising TV star, Sylvester is an odd one as he was mostly an entertainer, Paul McGann, DEFINITELY up and coming, Ncuti is up and coming/attempted stunt cast for younger audiences.
Tom Baker wasn't unknown, he had a Golden Globe nomination, he was the definition of "up and coming", same with David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker. Davison had a big TV part but still in that category, Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee, Eccleston, Capaldi, all the second category.
Hartnell and Eccleston were also quite "big" names but still not Hollywood! But that's the kind of actor you need right now. Who is the female Eccleston? Don't think "British actors in blockbusters" think "who is a welcome face on TV, stage and film"
I do think it's funny how most casting talk for the Doctor focuses on how the ideal actor is "unknown", when they actually mean "up and coming". Matt Smith is the only unknown to get the part. You're either getting rising stars or respected character actors, or Matt Smith.
Capaldi is the exception as a mega-fan but Capaldi was not, and still is not, a massive a-list Hollywood star. Exceptionally busy TV actor but he could still do Doctor Who realistically for a few years. He's the closest we'll ever get and that's only due to his existing fandom.
I think the ultimate irony about the fallout over Reality War is that if she wasn't on Doctor Who already and still had the rest of her acting career, Billie Piper WOULD be an excellent pick for the Doctor. Top tier even.
