Usually I'd guess a high turnout was bad for Labour in this kind of scenario, and it might be, but the "pick the next pm" factor throws a spanner in the works, prediction-wise.
Turnout in Makerfield likely to be 60% to 65%. On the one hand, that's pretty high for a by-election.
On the other, for a seat given a unique chance to decide the next prime minister, it's quite low. It's the most powerful vote most Makerfield residents will ever cast, and 40% didn't bother.
