I will say I'm rarely in the mood for System of a Down, they lack that comfort food quality of a lot of metal. When I do listen it is in a bit of an abstracted aesthetic appreciation way
The Detroit Cobras deliver exactly what I want from a rock & roll (rock & soul?) record, scads of catchy songs that make me want to bounce around the house shouting "bamalama". Most enjoyable record in the contest IMO.
Yeah, I think this might be the hardest choice of the first round for me.
I appreciate SoaD's metallic, Rick Rubin-approved eclecticism more than I enjoy it. Can't decide if they're the Armenian Tool or the metal Firewater. I wonder how many people who bought this record bought their politics. Anyway, voted Detroit Cobras, which is hotter and looser and rangier.
The Detroit Cobras' Rachel Nagy is one of the all time great rock and roll voices and you should vote for this fantastic album of interesting deep-cuts covers. If you know some of these songs she might be why.
I'll give ya fun but I think even Cannibal Corpse would laugh if you said they were more interesting than just about anybody
They are very talented musicians and incorporate a lot of different genres into their mush of sound. I intellectually get the appeal but there's zilch I've heard in their big albums that catches my interest. I can't recall a single moment from any of their songs.
