Sometimes the message is "you will struggle to stay #sober until the day you die." Which isn't true for most of us. And can discourage people from trying or picking themselves back up after a relapse. #recoveryposse #wedorecover
Many in the medical community use the term "remission" for long-term sobriety. Rather than cured. When asked if I'm "cured" and say it depends on how it's defined. Do I think I'll ever relapse? No. Do I think I can safely consume? No. #recoveryposse #addiction #wedorecover

Good summary of the benefits of #harmreduction as an adjunct to #addiction treatment. "Public systems remain reactive rather than preventative, leaving taxpayers to fund a revolving door of crisis care that fails to produce meaningful or lasting outcomes." #libertarian

Background on drug prohibition and harms associated with the demand and supply side of the drug trade. The Cato Institute concludes that a reasonable relegalization regime with appropriate nudges toward better decision making is likely to work better than prohibition.

Are you happy with how you respond and react to others? Or do you need to do better? For many of us, like me, it's a process to gain the ability to do that. What's triggering you and why? Is it a wound that needs healing? Is it a behavior that needs to be changed? #recoveryposse
Good overview of what we've learned from the millions spent researching substance use, #addiction, treatment, and criminalization. #policy #crime

After 32 years #sober, and really for the past 25+, I very occasionally hear a brief whisper of "wouldn't it be great to get high" or some such nonsense. The trick is to just let that thought float on by! #soberlife #recoveryposse
Even if you don't have an #alcohol #addiction, reduced consumption, a type of #harmreduction, is beneficial. Studies have recently found that people who cut back on their drinking or binge drink less often experience a drop in blood pressure, improved liver function and a better quality of life.
Interesting piece about whether I, for example, am/consider myself "recovered" or "in long-term recovery." One surprise for me was that the AA Big Book uses "recovered" repeatedly for those in the long-term sobriety group. #recoveryposse #addiction #wedorecover
