Does anyone else owe a good dollop of their weirdness to cheap Dover reprints? These were behind another row of books and I feel like I’m seeing beloved old friends.
The most interesting thing in *While the Light Lasts* is 'Manx Gold', a story Christie was commissioned to write as part of a treasure hunt to promote tourism to the Isle of Man. The story itself isn't great, but the context (as explained in the notes) is fascinating.
Have been advised that I might want to head home earlier today because there's a Farage riot planned for central Portsmouth. But these are the guys who want to make the streets safe, right?
Anyway, my manifesto for bringing back *Doctor Who*:
- Go back to horror and the uncanny.
- No wisecracking. It's not a sitcom.
- Get rid of the grinding orchestral schmaltz and bring in more avant-garde soundtracks. The show should sound weird.
- Cliffhangers.
