These themes highlight how archaeology can both inform present-day problem solving and deepen our understanding of sustainability as a long-term social–ecological process. Consider submitting your paper if you are working on these topics!
An excellent blog. The UK’s globally leading arts, music, museums, heritage, generate major economic value but more importantly they shape soft power. When we think only about direct economic value we miss the crucial wider role of humanities #systemsthinking

Two current calls for papers that highlight archaeology’s engagement with sustainability discourse.
World Archaeology's "An Archaeology for Sustainable Development: Studying the Past to Build a Better Future" (deadline 30 October)

Geoarchaeology’s "Landscapes of Sustainability: Geoarchaeological Approaches to Long-Term Human–Environment Dynamics" (deadline 12 October) onlinelibrary.wiley.com/page/journal...
Happy to be hosting this @arcdurham.bsky.social seminar with Dr Edward Henry (Colorado State University), “From Circles to Cities: Geoarchaeological Insights into Indigenous Histories of Precontact Eastern North America”, Room CB-0015 3rd June 16:00-17:00. Also on Teams (DM for link).
Archaeology, heritage and civil engineering are closely linked. In the UK, much of our infrastructure is historic and dates to 19th century or even earlier; archaeology is crucial for effective monitoring, and informing repair and maintenance.
