I hate it when literature gets political. Keep your opinions to yourself and just entertain me! Whatever happened to good old fashioned ripping yarns, like Animal Farm, 1984, Starship Troopers, and The Communist Manifesto?https://www.slashfilm.com/2120482/sci-fi-author-andy-weir-star-trek-issue/
The NY Times saves its harshest skepticism for progressives. Instead of being impressed by 3,000+ coordinated protests, NYT dismisses the value of “hitting a number” and asks if No Kings will be “a primal scream that fades into a whimper.”
F off, NY Times. We'll defeat fascism w/o you. (Gift link)

Project Hail Mary and The Martian author Andy Weir likes Star Trek, but he also takes issue with one aspect of the franchise. Does he have a point?

Claude looks especially incompetent when it blames failure on its own subagents it launched and gave instructions to. It's all "yeah I'm with you, let's junk this garbage."

It wouldn't mean that that's what everyone was doing -- after all there are two very different characters in the little drama. But it might mean that's why it exists, that's what it's *for*, culturally, as its high-order bit. I'm doing some reading about this, to comfort me in my alienation.
What if, at a classical music concert, when some folks applaud after just one movement instead of waiting for the end, and some other folks turn to look and make disgusted clicks, what if that *is* the classical music concert? It'd be an inauthentic construction to socially harm the riffraff.

i'll take this further: "slop" is just a pejorative way to say "production has become much cheaper and things can now be made that could not justify their expense in the status quo ante cost structure".
the printing press was used for slop too. slop is just the expression of the freedom to make.
