Do policies affect everyone equally? Women still face inequalities in pay, work, care, housing and retirement. These inequalities intersect with race, disability and class, meaning the same policy can have very different impacts on different groups. That's why understanding policy impacts matters.

That is why equality impact assessments matter. They are not a bureaucratic exercise. They are a practical tool that help policymakers understand who is affected by decisions, identify unintended consequences and design better policies from the outset.
