It’s pretty wild to see the first new reactor at INL (the national reactor testing lab) in 40 odd years be a privately funded and designed machine. That seems to say something about INL and/or the DOE.
In my experience the opposite has kind of been the problem with management and ALARA. We are expected to go to frankly silly, or even dangerous, extremes to keep doses low. This is not me arguing against the principle either, but there are hazards other than radiation we should worry about!
In practice I have seen radiation be the dominant hazard considered, even if it’s far from the one most likely to kill me at the job. I have no clue how this should be done, but I would like to see a rebalance to treat radiation like a hazard but not THE hazard to end all hazards.
It would 1) be a perfect work truck and 2) be the most beastly off-road vehicle ever once you gave it a lift and bigger tires. Little trucks like that rule and I miss my Ranger.
Anyone else reminded of those obnoxious sweet 16 parties shown in My Super Sweet 16 with Trump birthday? I keep waiting to hear that he cried about the cake being wrong or his crush not showing up. What a national fucking embarrassment that this is happening.
