"Shaking up?" More like shaking with rage at the possibility of having to see that fuckstick's face on the regular again
A lot of people think that it is odd for Chicago to advocate for more money from the state and sometimes you'll see news articles frame it as begging but we do not have a local income tax so in order to get revenue that we send up to the state into our schools we need the state to send it back.
About 24% of households in Illinois earn $150K in income compared to 25.4% in Cook County (S1901 Income in the past 12 months).
So if we did shift to progressive revenue, It would be less about what Chicago puts in and gets back and instead about some people putting more in.

Illinois does not have a progressive income tax. It has a flat income tax rate of 4.95% and every single year that I have lived here I have messed up my state tax withholding bc there's something about this that just doesn't compute for me.
This is nice.
Ok and also I didn't even talk about adequacy, equity, full funding and state EBF but the state is behind and that's partly bc they aren't getting as much revenue as they would through progressive taxation so I kind of touched on it a little.
