Something to consider with the fuel tracking sites springing up is that AI coding tools now make it *very* easy to create tracking websites (for all sorts of things!) that look very professional and may even be based on reasonable data sources, but still don't necessarily give a complete picture.

In underfunded fields, people tend to do their own work. In overfunded fields, people pay others to do everything, including “their” research and writing. It’s not an accident that AI is an overfunded field that grew out of other overfunded fields.
Someone who has been working full-time in a professional field for 5+ years post-terminal degree and is often themselves supervising trainees is not “early career”

While the situation is grim at NIH, it's closer to catastrophic at NSF. They're just not able to move any money out the door. It appears OMB has them on lockdown. www.science.org/content/arti....

In re my last repost: I also cannot think of a less psychologically effective way to persuade people to not interact with a thing they like than to say "actually this thing is shit and you're a stupid person for liking it". When has that ever worked?

My term on InternetNZ board is ending soon after nine long years. In my seat please prioritise those with a broad lived experience & real technical knowledge. We have values driven people, we need DNS/Domain name knowledge. I had real-world expertise with internet scams, phishing, abuse etc.

So, um... this is bad. Really bad. I looked at the letters that were translated by the AI, and the very first one I found was almost entirely hallucination. Thread:

I think we're going to see a lot more of this especially over election year. Digging into assumptions and data sources is tedious and complex but the graphs are visually appealing and easy for media to pick up. It's a whole new authoritative-looking vector for mis- and disinformation.

I dunno I think "were Harry Potter books good" is a completely irrelevant question to the moment. like, you don't need to avoid them because they're artistically bad, you need to avoid them because there are concrete, specific ways that interacting with them funds Nazi stuff

So pleased to see that the defamation claims against @sanjanah.bsky.social and @tvnz.bsky.social did not succeed. It’s still very concerning to see billionaires attempt to stifle public discourse through the courts. Who would want to put themselves through that? www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3609...
