Beloved by all the dogs in the San Fernando Valley

I'm reading Alan Moore's The Great When and getting mad at every other sci-fi/fantasy writer working right now for slacking on the quality of their prose.
One of the things that angers transphobes so much about trans people is that we dare to present an idea of gender that isn't based in oppression. They suffer in patriarchy and resent anyone who takes on a gender role and rejects the suffering, which they'll never do because they're married to it.
I remember being really rattled by Us when it came out in a way that I don't think I have been since
They hate that trans people think they don't deserve to suffer like they did. They're too afraid to reckon with the idea that they didn't deserve to suffer either, but their suffering is instead the price they pay for the benefits of their class/whiteness, their deal with the devil to be on top.
