My Statement on the EHRC evidence session at the Women and Equalities Committee
This was among the lines of the session yesterday. The EHRC admit their interpretation of the Equality Act means people “will have great difficulty working with [it]”. The guidance must be better and less harmful, but we also need to fix the law. Thank you @kevinmckenna.co.uk for signing EDM 240.
Approximately 0.5 seconds after it looked like
I cannot stand by and willingly allow this harmful guidance to be adopted. This is why I have signed Nadia Whittome’s Early Day Motion 240 to disapprove this guidance. In my view, the Code creates confusion rather than clarity, and does not strengthen protections for trans people.
This guidance is not ready, practical or safe to implement. It risks harm to trans people and their families, pits service users against each other, and leaves providers in an impossible position with inadequate protection from litigation.
