A lot of reporting on this issue missed some important details — so @briankaylor.bsky.social and I couldn’t help but correct the record.
SBC messengers passed resolution generically condemning political violence. William Wolfe, wearing a Turning Point USA "Freedom" shirt, pushed an amendment that would have named Charlie Kirk (making him only person named in resolution). But it was voted down at urging of Resolutions Committee.
Ecclesiastical endorsers who signed letter demanding Pentagon changes to coding include Disciples, UCC, UU, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Apostolic Catholic Orthodox, Pentecostal (Coalition of Spirit-filled Churches) Pagan (Circle Sanctuary), & American, Alliance, & Cooperative Baptists.
This effort is ecumenical & interfaith, & is for big changes & transparency. Unlike push over weekend by LDS politicians, groups aren't just advocating for themselves but also for others harmed by Pentagon's new codes. And the new system is really bad: publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/latest-pen...
