Thanks for sharing my Genealogy Gold story Paul ๐
One for my fellow family historians ๐
I enjoyed listening to this podcast as I was driving today. In my drawer, I have an unpublished manuscript of my mother's. It is a historical novel, set in England and Western Australia nearly 200 years ago. And, of course, the ship journey to reach the main character's new home.
Always look up! We had a lovely lunch with friends at an old character hotel in Leederville (Perth, Australia) today. Leederville takes its name from my husbandโs 4x great-grandparents, William & Hannah Leeder, early settlers. As I passed the stairs, I saw this lovely stained-glass window ๐
I have a sizable collection of postcards. This is probably my oldest. It was purchased by my mum in London nearly 60 years ago, just before we boarded a BOAC Boeing 707 to fly halfway around the world, to our new home in Perth, Western Australia ๐ซ๐๐ฌ #plane #postcard
I love podcasts. I listen when I go walking, when Iโm at the gym, when Iโm driving, when Iโm cooking. I balance it out with a variety of genres but my favourite genre is this โฌ๏ธ. I learn a lot from the hosts and guests and I love listening to the family stories.
Iโm sometimes overwhelmed by the emotions that surface as I am writing stories about my ancestors. Today has been one of those days.
As a parent and grandparent, I feel the pain of those who lost children, whose lives kept delivering blow after blow. But they picked themselves up and carried on.
My dad was born on 18 June 1941 in Liverpool. Exactly one year later, another Liverpool boy was born - Sir Paul McCartney.
This story isn't all about Paul. It's about a chair, a front room, a birthday party, a church hall, and a family home on Dinas Lane. ๐๐

It was lovely to receive positive comments from a history professor about my recently published blog about my deaf ancestors. She sent me her article and deaf people, love and marriage. theconversation.com/the-deaf-bla...
Itโs been another busy, exciting and rewarding week. I have had articles accepted by two different family history societies, a specialist history association and an online genealogical publication. ๐๐๐ I have done this โฌ๏ธ a few times though ๐ #familyhistory #genealogy
The medieval churchโs acknowledgement that signs were equivalent to a spoken language was transformative for deaf people.

This weekโs edition brings together a powerful collection of writing that sits at the very heart of why we turn to family history in the first place.
