So proud to have been a part of the society that brought Dr. Freeman to Anchorage! I wish I could have been there in person -- glad to hear this talk again!
I really thought I had commented on Gordon Wood's passing, but I was remiss in just liking some posts and getting distracted. Such a senseless death. He was a priceless treasure to our field. Even my mom was a fan of his work. Let us hope to do well to continue his legacy.

Chilled out at one of my favorite childhood places while I'm up here in the Blue Ridge visiting my hometown. I'm a little concerned Mud Lick is so low this year...but it was still a beautiful time.

Just heard this too. I was at the same conference. Wood was in top form—at the age of 92. Strangely enough, I took a moment to thank him for his support over the years—from grad school on. A kind and generous man—as well as a brilliant scholar. I’m stunned.

Yupik devilchaser from Sivuqaq (St. Lawrence Island). Made from antler & used to treat sick and nightmares. Also called bullroarers, as they are typically attached to a cord and swung in circles to make sound. Via Smithsonian. #alaskahistory #alaska
