this is ancient discourse now but i can't help but feel like this is a lot of vaguely left-coded content on social media these days. it's like progressive for people both gay and straight to use gay to mean [bad character traits that are gay stereotypes] but now in a 'he's gay so he's allowed' way.

I almost think it would read as less homophobic if they did try to make more of a connection between his personality and his sexuality. Instead, they're stuck in a worst of all worlds scenario where he's written like the gay-coded camp loser from an old sitcom, and separately, he's textually gay.
