1/ Cutler + Glaeser paper on unis as organisational form. TLDR; a weird hybrid of academic entrepreneurs battling with centralising bureaucrats; incredibly successful, but also internalises a lot of conflict.

That basic insight is very useful. What’s missing is a) any mixed economy - every uni is Ivy League here - b) any kind external oversight, either through regulation (most countries) or through political coercion (the US right now). That’s especially odd given both authors are at Harvard!
