The dude said he liked one aspect of Trek better than the obvious social commentary episodes and that’s pretty fair. Many episodes weren’t being particularly mindful of social commentary. Arguably some of the best episodes in any of the series had nothing to do with it.

This is perhaps a fundamental example of why you don’t assassinate their leaders no matter how much you dislike them.
I think people are reacting as if this means Weir is a conservative, but he’s not. There’s just an aspect of the show he preferred.
