I'm currently looking at the Graham Platner situation as a win-win. If he beats Susan Collins - that's a huge win for any realistic chance that we reverse the Trumpist slife. If he loses to Susan Collins - I get to enjoy seeing a guy I think is a complete dirtbag lose.

Booing hurts.
Among Graham Platner's progressive supporters, there seems to be a broad disinclination to admit openly that "a dirtbag is better than a fascist," even though that's a pretty good argument in favor of voting for Graham Platner.
When the Voice of God (which is what the Times believes it is) does not hold a Republican responsible for his choices, there is no point in said Republican acting responsibly.
