Happy birthday to the 'L' 🥳
On this day in 1892, the South Side Rapid Transit railroad company began regular service on Chicago's first elevated train.
The line initially ran from Congress to 39th Street (now Pershing), largely using alleys--earning it the nickname "The Alley 'L'."
Beach service is back 😎
We're providing lakefront service all summer long on the following bus routes:
#35 31st/35th
#63 63rd
#72 North
#78 Montrose
In 2017, we were the first major U.S. transit agency to debut a Pride Train, and we’re keeping that proud Chicago tradition rolling. This year, all eight cars feature a spectacular, top-to-bottom diagonal-stripe wrap.

This weekend, CTA Acting President Nora Leerhsen was in the field to ensure that CTA addressed issues impacting riders.
We delivered hundreds of thousands of rides while also conducting necessary, impactful work on the tracks in one of our most critical corridors.
To our riders: as always, we are grateful for your trust and patience as we are constantly assessing our operations and adjusting to meet your needs.
Acting President Leerhsen observed nighttime crews in the Red Line subway tunnel, visited Blue Line stations, and engaged with staff at Fullerton — verifying real-time adjustments were making a difference and thanking employees for their work.
We are doing this work with our riders in mind, while also monitoring service closely and making key adjustments in real time to address issues riders were experiencing.
Pride is in motion! CTA Acting President Nora Leerhsen joined our amazing shop crews last week to help prep the 9th annual CTA Pride Train, which is now in service along the Red Line for Pride Month!
