I suspect the single biggest cause of all of our problems is the belief that things are a zero sum game.
a website thats like google maps navigation but with increasingly esoteric modes of transportation
I think that artifact awe is pretty real and pretty understated when we compare art / creative efforts
we were watching the original jurassic park and you sit confronted by this rubber animatronic in the rain and it feels so embodied to the thousands of effort-hours to get to that final shot
fantastic example of UX philosophy differences between "does the button tell you what the button does" vs "does the button tell you what the intended outcome is"
and there's really fascinating long-standing debate about this, including cultural and demographic (kids, seniors, etc) affordances
it's interesting even that my linocut art prints get so much attention because they are objectively pretty mediocre art, it's very much a pleasant hobby thing for me, but because you can see every single carved stroke in the end print, I think it points at that effort time and reads as "real" art

and so when people talk about slop - it doesn't even have to be AI specifically; we're 20 years into marvel CGI movies - I think mostly what they're referencing is the lack of feeling, lack of awe, lack of ability to determine effort-hours in the final product
we've abstracted the creation work
until we get a more atproto podcast solution, I'll just post them here like this
welcome to the very first episode, @kittokatto405.bsky.social!
wherein we talk about kit going to business school, and I win $20 playing bingo
