This is such a perfect example of what I mean by saying we live in a post-information world. A complete dissociation of the idea that information acts as evidence of reality instead of making its own reality that substitutes for the real.

Also a note that it is a bunch of computer scientists and not historians or archivists making the claim confabulated data can ”fill archival gaps”. One of the author’s entire paper record looks like a research agenda to prove slop and confabulations are good and better than empirically grounded data
A problem with the rise of a global far right fascist culture as the new mainstream culture is that their culture largely involves hate-watching things to get them themselves worked up into a frothy and reactionary rage, and everybody else’s culture comes to mirror that too: hate-watching the haters
