The Hawaiian Common Moorhen, is an endangered, endemic subspecies of wetland bird found exclusively on the islands of Kaua'i and O'ahu. There are only an estimated 1,000 of these birds remaining in the wild. They construct woven platform nests over shallow water. Chicks swim hours after hatching.
