6. Analysing the ongoing autocratization in the USA, the authors show that within the first year of the second Trump presidency, the LDI score has declined by 24%, falling back to the same level as in 1965.
This is the most rapid “executive aggrandizement” in modern history.

5. Assessing the cumulative effects of autocratization over the last 25 years shows that 85 countries have taken significant steps towards more autocratic rule. Most of them – 59% – remain substantially below their initial levels of democracy by the end of 2025.
