There's not a lot of information about red-backed vole vocalizations except when they're stressed. However, watching these guys go about their lives, I've learned some are chatty, emitting a sound like a mini Geiger counter that gets louder when they are talking to each other. #mammals
How I normally see boreal chickadees except for the one that landed on my feeder the other morning when I didn't have my camera! #birds πΏ
This is amazing!
I have the coolest rarity in my yard! I kept seeing one chickadee at the feeder that looked wrong - not quite black-capped, but not boreal either. I'm pretty sure it's a hybrid!
It's rare, but it can happen and I have both species in my yard. You can see the blend of traits #birds #LiferPie πΏ
This bald eagle is giving me a bombastic side-eye :) I'm so glad they're back. #birds πΏ
A few more looks at my furry little friends. I have at least three red-backed voles who have made a home in the giant snowbank next to my back deck. They come out at dawn and dusk. Taken while sitting on the deck with my big lens balanced on my knee so I could manually focus. #mammals πΏ
I'm sorry if you're getting sick of the vole photos. There's going to be a few more. I spent a half an hour on the floor of the deck with my back up against the wall and my good camera perched on my knee so I could get some close-ups of my little friends. It was worth the pins and needles #mammals πΏ
I have the best plow driver. Winter is relentless this year and Iβve had to do a lot of shoveling, but I rarely have to shovel much of a windrow because the plow operator lifts his blade whenever he goes by my driveway. You can see just how little he left behind in this photo after 6 inches of snow.
Winter just keeps on keeping on here. I sat outside in the falling snow for a few minutes last night to watch Gidget and their friend foraging in the fresh snow. #mammals πΏ
I enjoyed Heatherβs wildflower drawing class. Easy going teaching style and some helpful tool tips.
